break, breakaway (brā-kə-wā) noun: a rider or group of riders that has escaped the pack [slang, cycling] .
The first time I heard this term I instantly felt a connection to it. As if the term itself had a much deeper meaning, not just in the moment, but in my life itself.
Since then it has come to define much more then just my goal in a cycling race (the breakaway is always made up of the fastest riders), it has come to define the way that I look at almost every aspect of my life.
Now whenever I’m looking at travel, fitness, or my financial goals, I approach them with the idea of breaking away from the pack.
In travel, I look to find the undiscovered treasures all around us. Even a hiking trip with my three small kids never fails to bring something spectacular that we never would have found sitting on the couch.
With fitness, I constantly look for ways to improve myself and push the limits of what I thought was possible. The only way to truly enjoy the life we’ve been given is through a healthy mind and body (the travel will take care of the mind, the gym will take care of the body).
In my financial journey, my wife and I are looking for ways to do things differently than anyone else before. We are looking for ways to achieve Financial Independence and retire WELL before the normal age (our current goal is 41!).
TheBreakaway has changed the way that I view the world. Hopefully, it will do the same for you. I’m going to use this space to share my stories and lessons learned as I continue to grow, change, and learn on my own personal journey.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you in TheBreakaway.
